Divorce Party Themes - Someone Has to Say It

Divorce Party Themes

The days of hanging your head in shame after a divorce are over. If you feel like celebrating, do it. Divorce parties are on the rise. It’s a wonderful way to break the ice, in case your friends aren't sure what to say or do. Just have them show up. If you need a little inspiration, here are some themes to have fun and embrace your new chapter.

Henry VIII

This can be a costume affair or you can simply serve some mead, spiced wine, and gin and play up the man who embraced divorce before it was cool. If you feel like being fancy, print some large banners, maybe a family crest with your maiden name would go well with some decorative candles or lanterns. Velvet masks could add a note of intrigue. Have tudor rose temporary tattoos and maybe even consider a line of halloween blood make-up around your neckline if you really wanna get into character.

Plate Smashing/Rage Room

Take your ride or die crew to a rage room and let out some steam. There’s a reason these businesses have taken off. Go out for drinks after. If you’d rather stay home you can lay down a tarp and buy some plates and cups from Goodwill. Just sweep up well.

Favorite TV Divorce

There’s a lot of ways this could play out. You can make this a cosplay event. Or you can have a bunch prepared on notecards and play the game where everyone tapes it to their forehead and has to guess based on what people say to them. You could also have some “contenders” for best TV divorce and have images set up in jars and allow guests to “vote.” Then you can stream the winners.

Getting Out on Time Served

For those of us who gravitate to darker humor, this is a fun play on your past and the freedom of the future. Play up the prison themes, watch Orange is the New Black, or even serve ramen, and try prison-inspired recipes. Use ChatGPT to make up crime stories about guests and have a mug shot photo booth.

Fortune Teller

This is all about what’s next, right? Hire a fortune teller to read palms or tarot cards. You can also make paper fortune tellers like junior high school kids. It’s a fun way to manage the uncertainty life can throw at you and consider all the positive changes coming your way.

No matter what theme you pick (or you just carve out some time with your favorite people), taking time to celebrate getting this far can do a world of good.
